Healthy living – Love yourself

Today I was supposed to write about healthy food, how to eat clean, Mediterranean diet… But instead of it I will talk about feeling good about yourself.

Let’s get in contest first: On one of my latest posts I told you about what’s going on on inside my head.

And, on the last few months I’ve been hearing from everyone how beautiful I am now that I’ve lost some weight, that I should be proud of myself, that I am now a complete beauty.

I hate hearing that.

Don’t misunderstand me, I love people telling me that I am beautiful. But, I hate they tell me it right now, because I now why I am so thin: I’ve been really sad and so I’ve been eating very, very little. And not only that, I’ve never felt weaker than now, I’ve never eaten so little and I’ve never loathed food so much before.

And so in my mind I think: being thin is synonymous of being beautiful? I mean, I’ve lost a couple of kilos but that’s all. A couple of kilos that I should have kept. Because now you can see my ribs and my backbones, does it look as I am beautiful? Not for me.

So today, here I want to talk about the importance of loving yourself, about our self esteem: loving yourself should be the most important thing in your life (or at least one of them).

I know that sounds as a cliche, everyone says that and very few ones put it in practice. But loving yourself makes you better at loving others, makes your life fuller, makes your days happier.

Nowadays, with all that beautiful and “photoshoped” models everywhere, we have a twisted concept of beauty, and us, those real people, with real curves, giggles, fats and cellulite feel as we should wear a small size, be always perfect, without any acne, wrinkles or imperfections.

But real people isn’t perfect.

The same way we have to embrace the flaws and weaknesses in our characters, we should embrace the imperfections in our bodies. Because we are not “photoshoped” photos in a magazine.

Those last months I’ve been working in that called self esteem, I’ve been trying new ways of feeling better with myself and I want to share the ones which worked better.

Exercise

The number one in the list. Exercise not only makes your body more beautiful. It helps you feel reaaally good and it helps with anxiety, sadness and stress.

Start doing things by yourself

Embrace and enjoy being alone and feel the pleasure of being able of spending your time doing things without needing anyone else around.

Spend time outdoors

Fresh air, sun, rain… When I feel obfuscated or anxious, spending half an hour on a walk (or run) helps me see things different. Even if it’s snowing and freezing outside, those walks are really helpful for my non-stopping brain.

Do not neglect your personal hygiene and looks

This is perhaps the most obvious but yet unexpected one: If you feel bad about yourself, seeing you with old clothes, your hair in a mess, dirty teeth and smelling like a skunk never will help you feeling better with yourself. So shower, wash your teeth, put on your beautiful clothes and show your best looks.

Indulge yourself

Hot water baths. Delicious smelling creams. Candles. Luscious beverages. A sweet treat every now and then. Indulge yourself on things make you feel better the same way you would do with someone you love.

What about you? What do you do to feel better with yourself? Any tricks I could add to my list?

Enjoy your day beauties!

Blog Love – 09/01/2015

Hi guys! Two Blog Love posts in a row, can you believe it? Well it’s happening :P.

Since the New Year started I’ve been looking for better ways of displaying this section, I first tried to only present the links I found interesting, but it’s really bizarre for me to find recipes between DIY and tips, sooo I think the display I bring today will be easier for everyone: If you are in the mood of something concrete you can go for it and only look for the correct header.

Cooking & nutrition

  • This recipe is making me hungry right now!
  • Let’s go for red fruits again with this (Looking-delicious) blueberry smoothie.
  • Doesn’t look this chiken recipe perfect for a night with friends?
  • Does winter make you feel cold lately? Let’s add some noddle soup to the menu.
  • What about give it a go and try to make some almond milk? Are you ready for some honey on it?
  • Well, winter and mojito sometimes doesn’t look as the right combination, maybe with some new cocktails
  • What about slow down and sugar and try new ways of sweeten life?

Raspberry Smoothie

Hi yall! How’s your week going? Mine hectic and full of stress… Days happen in a hurry lately. I start my last finals’ season in four days and I only stop studying when I write here. In fact, while you read this post I’ll be probably travelling to Valencia. I’m spending the next three weeks there and at the end, when I come back home I’ll be (at last) a Mathematician.

That said, I have to apologize in advance, the only time I spend without studying is when I write here and maybe I don’t do it with the coherence I should.

A few weeks ago my doctor told me I needed to eat some more red meat and red fruits because I’m still too close to anemia (one of the perks of being sad and eat very little). So I thought: mmmh do I have to eat red fruits? Oh what a shame (wink, wink). And my head began to run thinking what kind of (sweet) recipes I could make up.

The one I bring you today is simple, tasty and a good way of starting your day. This raspberry smoothie consists in grab a few raspberries, some yogurt, milk and sugar and blend it together (well, as every smoothie recipe you can find, isn’t it?).

Ingredients: (5 servings)

  • 300 gr/10.5 oz raspberries
  • 250 gr/8.8 oz yogurt
  • 200 mL/1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • I added five medium strawberries from around the kitchen

Directions:

  1. Wash the berries.
  2. Put everything in the blender.
  3. Blend until everything is well mixed.
  4. Enjoy!

So this is it. Have a nice day! 😀

Mood’s Music #6: Creep

A few months ago I posted a short text saying how tired I felt without any reason and I stopped being around for a while. Then, lots of things happened: I went to the doctor to see if there was anything wrong, they asked me lots of questions, they did a complete check, they found nothing at all, they sent me to the psychologist, she asked me a tone of questions (again) and at the end, I was diagnosed with depression.

At first I didn’t understand anything: ME? DEPRESSION? Oh no, that’s not possible… I’m such a strong-minded girl! But… You know what? Maybe being sad is not bad, sometimes we need to mourn, not only people but also events. And the fact of putting your feelings in a metal box and hide it on the darkest corner of your heart never helps mourning.

Being strong is also being capable of analyse and understand your feelings. Being strong is to stand face to face with those things that make you feeling bad. Being strong is to embrace when you’re feeling Creep and allow yourself draw out that sadness.

Now that I am feeling better (meaning that I have more good days than bad ones) I realize that the worst part was being diagnosed. When the doctor told me about my condition it was a big strike, once I accepted it and started working on my feelings and the reasons why I was so sad there was a big progress on my mood.

So, today I want to invite you: If you ever feel creep, embrace it, talk about it with someone (professional help or a friend, I’ve been doing both), analyse it, but don’t overdo, get to the core of the problem and start working on solve it. But also keep in mind you have to be ready to face the problem and you’ll never solve anything if you aren’t willing to.

Now, if you ever (EVER) need to talk, I’ll be round here. Sometimes talking with people who’s going to understand or with a complete stranger is easier than with our close ones. Send me an email and I’ll be glad of hearing about you.

Let’s start enjoying life.

Happy 2015, Resolutions and I am back again!

So, it’s been a long time since my last post. Too many weeks if you ask me, but what’s first goes first and I needed the pause. But, as lately I’ve been feeling with a lot much energy than before I thought the timing was correct and as they say around here: “Año nuevo, vida nueva”, which means New Year, New Life. Well, starting a year is a good way of getting new habits isn’t it? So here I am, on the way of trying it!

Now, how was your night? Did you celebrate with closed ones? I spent it with the whole family and after midnight went out with my sisters and some friends… And yes, I came back home reeeeeally late. In fact, I’ll be probably sleeping by the time you read this post.

As it couldn’t be different, with the new year come the so lovely “Resolutions”. The ones we aaaaalways want to keep and then usually forget two weeks later…

In order to avoid it, this year I want to keep things simple, only 12 resolutions that include work, this blog and leisure time, some of them really easy to achieve, others a little bit more demanding:

Now, what about you? Did you make any resolutions this year?

Have a nice day and HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!!!!
